When players move into the Under 9 competition (born 2017) there are some big changes that you all need to be across!
Game Days:
- All under 9 teams play a mix of both home and away games – away games take place across Greater Brisbane
- Games are generally played on a Saturday anytime between 8am and 5pm – the club does not have any control over scheduling of away games
In Under 9, teams are graded into three different levels:
1) Kangaroos:
This level is for players with advanced skills who are looking for a challenge and development pathways into FQ Academy. Matches are played with more speed, skill and tactics. Players are required to trial for entry into a Kangaroo team in October 2026. There will be two kangaroo teams in 2026 – K1 and K2.
2) Wallabies:
This level is well-suited to players who have played the sport previously, have good knowledge of the rules and sound performance with minimal instruction from their coach.
3) Quokkas:
This level is well-suited to players who are new or have basic skills of the game, are looking to have fun and may require assistance to develop their skills on the pitch.
Detail about each level is listed in the table below:

Please note:
- There will be two Kangaroo teams in 2026. The K1 team will be for our most advanced and dedicated players and this provides a pathway into the FQ Academy in U10. In addition to three mandatory training sessions each week, attendance at all games and tournaments is mandatory. Players who participate in other sports may not be best suited to K1 due to this level of commitment. A K2 team will be formed if the required number of suitable players are identified.
