2025 Kangaroos and Wallabies Trials
Thanks for registering for the 2025 Kangaroos and Wallabies trials. Here’s everything you need to know:
Which team is which?
Under 9 – Under 12 teams are graded into different levels. The graded levels are as follows:
- Quokkas: This level is well-suited to players who have basic skills of the game, are looking to have fun and may require assistance to develop their skills on the pitch.
- Wallabies: This level is well-suited to players who have played the sport previously, have good knowledge of the rules and sound performance with minimal instruction from their coach. Wallaby teams will be formed during the trial process and fully formed teams may request entry as a Wallaby team with the approval of the club.
- Kangaroos: This level is for players with advanced skills who are looking for a challenge and development pathways into FQ Academy. Matches are played with more speed, skill and tactics. Players are required to trial for entry into a Kangaroo teams. There are two types of Kangaroo teams:
- Kangaroo 1 (K1): more advanced competition
- Kangaroo 2 (K2): a development program for more advanced competition
- Football Queensland Academy (FQA): This is an elite pathway program for competitive players. Entry into Football Queensland Academy (FQA) teams is by trial only. Trials are held in term 4 each year. Entry to these teams is now closed but all players will be invited to trial in term 4 2025.

The trials are focused on identifying players to join the following teams (see above for more details):
- Kangaroo 1 (K1)
- Kangaroo 2 (K2)
- Wallabies

1. Submit an EOI to join the trials.
What are we looking for at trials?

- History (If you are a Southside Eagles player, it is likely that we have watched your previous season games and spoken to your previous coach)

When and where will trials be held?
Trials will be held during the first two weeks of February and will last 50 minutes each.
All trials will be held at Bulimba Memorial Park, Oxford St, Bulimba. Parking is best on Godwin St, and Stuart St.
Players will be pre-allocated a trial day, time, team and number. This information will be distributed on or before Friday 31st of Jan and any last minute changes will be sent out on Sunday 2nd February.
Please only attend your allocated trial day and time. do not attend trials that you are not invited to attend.
To help with planning ahead, most of the trials will take place on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays between 3rd February and 13th February.
Here are indicative times:
- Under 9’s start at 4:30pm
- Under 10′ start at 5:30pm
- Under 11’s start at 5:30pm or 6:30pm
- Under 12’s start at 6:30pm
Additional Friday Sessions from 5:30pm will be available for players identified to require further assessment, these sessions will be small-sided mixed-age sessions, and are not mandatory.
As mentioned above, please only attend your allocate trial day and time. do not attend trials that you are not invited to attend.
How many vacancies are we filling?
Until the trials are complete, it’s difficult to have 100% clarity on how many teams we will form. This table provides a guide for what the club is thinking but please note there will likely be changes:

Attendance Info
- Please arrive 10 minutes prior to the start time.
- Please check in with the team at the sign in desk near the grandstand.
- Please wear your Southside Eagles kit if possible.
- Please wear cleats and shin guards, you may also want to wear bug spray.
FAQ’s:
Q: What happens if I can’t make my allocated trial day and time?
A: Please email community@southsideeagles.com. Please note that while we try our best, we cannot accommodate all requests.
Q: What happens if my child is not selected to fill a K1 or K2 vacancy?
A: If your player is not selected for a Kangaroos team, we will be able to make a recommendation for either Wallabies or Quokkas. Please note that while we try our best, we cannot accommodate all requests.
Q: What if I have a fully formed team that would like to play at Wallabies level?
A: Please let us know and we will try and accommodate a ‘team’ trial to assess the whole team’s level.
Q: What if my child wants to play in Quokkas? Do they have to attend trials?
A: No they don’t need to attend any trials. If you have a child that would like to play Quokkas, you can submit an expression of interest for Quokkas and we will allocate them to a team.
